The Laundry List

broken image

There are so many resourceful uses for our essential oils around the house. The household member who most frequently manages the daily (beautiful) messes of family life is typically the expert in transforming items that are dirty, stinky, and stained into items that are clean and sweet smelling once more. If that’s you, you’re probably already thinking, is it time to toss in another load of laundry? I hope so, because it’s high time for dōTERRA® to become a bigger part of this process.

To start off with some bad news: from known carcinogens to physically triggering and disrupting fragrances, store-bought laundry products contain many undisclosed ingredients. Words like safe, gentle, and better are used in advertising, but what do they really mean when it comes to the fabric we put right up against our skin all day and night? It’s one thing to imagine that everything in our laundry detergent gets rinsed out during the rinse cycle; but in actuality, a good amount of that product gets left behind on the fabric, gaining intimate access to the skin and respiratory system. I don’t want to sound alarmist, but when we have natural solutions already at our fingertips, it’s simple wisdom to utilize them to the highest degree for both resourcefulness and health.

Of course, you could make your own laundry detergent... There are recipes aplenty for that, and if such homemade creations are your jam, more power to you. If not, then you should check out On Guard® Laundry Detergent! With truly safe, natural ingredients and powerful essential oils, this formula provides a non-toxic solution for lifting stains and giving your clothes a lovely, clean scent. Oils like Wild Orange, Cinnamon, and Eucalyptus lend their natural cleansing abilities, leaving your clothing squeaky clean without you having to worry about synthetic ingredients, dyes and toxins. It sure makes laundry day safer and more enjoyable!

Beyond this dōTERRA detergent option, let’s add a few more oily ideas to the laundry list. When someone comes home from the gym or sports practice, take those dirty socks or workout clothes and place them to soak in a bucket or sink with a few drops of Tea Tree oil. Use this purifying, practical oil for pre-soaking clothing that needs immediate attention, even when you’re not quite ready to start a load yet.

Do you ever place towels in your washing machine a day or two before you actually begin the washing process? If so, Purify Cleansing Blend will be your friend! Infuse that stale pile of towels or linens with Purify’s combination of Lemon, Siberian Fir, Citronella, Lime, Tea Tree, and Cilantro. Adding a few drops of Purify to your load will freshen things up with an herbaceous, clean aroma.

Finally, this was news to me: dōTERRA actually makes an accessory called the Ultra Fine Continuous Mist Sprayer. It’s the ultimate all-purpose sprayer to be used with your favorite oils and DIY blends, creating an even application of ultra-fine mist. Just think of misting your bed linens to keep them fresher between washes, and possibly getting a sounder night of sleep in the process! Serenity® or Lavender would be amazing oil choices for this linen- freshening application.

I hope this little laundry list helps you out when wash day next comes around in your household. Thank goodness for how dōTERRA helps us keep things simple, and even adds a splash of fun to the task!
